宋大祥 Daxiang Song

Dr. Song is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a founding figure of modern arachnology in China. After joining Hebei University in 1999, he served as Vice Director of the Institute of Zoology, CAS. He has made outstanding contributions to spider taxonomy and biodiversity research, describing over 300 new species and establishing several new genera and subfamilies. As chief editor of Fauna Sinica: Arachnida and author of Spiders of China, he published more than 200 scientific papers and 20 monographs, laying a solid foundation for the development of arachnology in China.

Dr. Song actively promoted the institutionalization and internationalization of arachnological research in China by founding the Chinese Arachnological Society and launching the journal Acta Arachnologica Sinica. His scholarly work has significantly advanced studies in spider systematics and faunistics, fostering extensive international collaboration and exerting a profound and lasting influence on the development of arachnology both in China and worldwide.
